More on HD video standards

I have blogged about HD format standards earlier. If you have been paying attention to the news, you know that the standards war is well underway, with products on the market for both the HD-DVD and the Blu-Ray standards. So, this article in today's Washington Post caught my attention.

Do you think that agreement between the two HD camps on camcorders provides a way out of the standards war or is it a "red herring"?

After reading the article, I think Sony and Panasonic are trying to exploit their niche on camcorder products. They wish it can give them a hand to win the next generation DVD format war. On the contrary, Toshiba and NEC do not have product line in camcorder and need to find out other possible influence factors to compete with Blue-ray. Even I doubt how much influence that ACVHD can make, but it is a right strategy to fully utilize all kinds of advantages to win the war.
